Jersey advertisements are coming to the NHL for the 2022-23 season, with a number of franchises already announcing their sponsors and revealing their new patches.
Hockey purists have voiced their displeasure with the new source of revenue, with the Montreal Canadiens’ Royal Bank of Canada logo .
While a good number of fans find the patches to be invasive, the addition of jersey ads figures to be an extremely lucrative venture for the NHL. Some experts have estimated it could lead to for the league, and could help offset some of the financial difficulties that have led to a in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. The going rate for a jersey ad deal is between $5-$10 million per year.
